Earlier this week, Geely officially announced the most important model in its new brand strategy, the National Business Daily reported today. The new Geely GC9, known in Chinese, is the most luxurious Geely yet, and, according to company representatives, usher in a new phase for the brand.

The GC9 (pictured) is aimed squarely at the midsize market, with its chief competitors being the new Beijing Hyundai Sonata and FAW-Mazda Azteca. The car is scheduled to make its official market debut next March.

According to statistics from Geely, the Chinese sedan market has grown a stable 9.7 percent since 2011. If these statistics are on the mark, the Chinese market for luxury sedans is on its way to setting a record 1.9 million sales this year. However, own brand manufacturers are not performing nearly as well. Geely statistics show own brand manufacturers’ market share in the midsize segment have fallen from 11.3 percent in 2009 to just 4 percent this year.

Geely hopes the new GC9 will help reverse this trend. “Geely has put a large amount of effort into this model,” Lin Jie, general manager of the Geely sales company, stated in an interview with theNational Business Daily, adding that its experience as one of the biggest own brand manufacturers in the country will help revitalize the midsize segment.

Geely’s brand new strategy, which started this April, focuses on restructuring its product positioning. The new strategy aims to focus on the individuality of its consumers with the slogan “Creating the best vehicle for each person”. According to a company spokesperson, the strategy was launched following changing consumer tastes and recent market trends.
